Welcome back to another installment of "Home of the Week"!
How do you make a house pop (Besides a well-manicured landscape.)? You compliment the house and shutter colors. This home has an orange/yellow tone to the brick so the owners chose a blue/green color for the shutters and it looks fantastic. They each make the house pop without being distracting or clashing against one-another. I might add some window boxes to complete the look, but I'm out of control like that. Let's check out the rest of the home!
When you walk into the home you're greeted with this fireplace. I love that the windows flank the fireplace creating a great focal point to the room. The mantal is the perfect spot for a unique mirror, a wreath or a tv. I might take out the carpet and extend the hardwood and add a large area rug to this space. I would also choose a lighter, new coat of paint to freshen the space up. There is a rounded white edge to the wall that makes the ceilng appear low- I feel like extending the paint color to the true top of the wall would alleviate this issue.
This space adds a unique aspect to the home. I'm always drawn to sunrooms- I like that you can experience the outdoors throughout the year without the inclimate weather. A few plants, furniture and your own personal touch could transform this space into your oasis. It has French Doors that lead back into the house and this room also has easy access to the patio and large back yard.
There's also a spacious kitchen with loads of cabinet and counter space.
A quick peak into the finished basement shows more storage and another fireplace!
The fireplace adds a great focal point to this room- I liked that the upstairs fireplace was painted, so I might paint this one white to match it. There is also a bar area to complete the perfect entertainment space. The bar needs a little updating but I love that it was added. Update the bar, add some more seating and a fridge and you're ready to watch some Iowa and Iowa State sports.... or in my case: the Kansas State Wildcats! Whoever you root for, you're bound to have a great watch party here.
Last, but certainly not least: A view of the backyard! There is so much space to this yard, and even better, it's private and shady thanks to all the trees. You can't always get a large yard and a great house but you certainly get both with this one.
What was your favorite part of this home? The yard? All seasons room? Or maybe it was the basement and great fireplaces. There's a little bit of everything to make everyone fall in love with this house.
