The Best Night Life in Cedar Rapids

A lot of people buy tickets for Vegas or plan vacations in big, expensive cities craving unmatched entertainment and nightlife.

If you live in Cedar Rapids, you don’t have to look far.

With a burgeoning economy, revitalized downtown and condos springing up all over, Cedar Rapids is attracting a younger crowd of professionals. Along with this younger demographic comes a more vibrant nightlife. But believe us, there’s more than just loud dance halls and all-night eateries. No matter what your age, if you’re looking for a fun night on the town, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Cedar Rapids.

Here’s a sampling.

  1. Grab an after-work snack. Before the sun sets and the night begins, you might want to unwind with a drink and snack after work. In addition to having some great deals on a great selection of beer, Mulligan’s has a can’t-miss Tuesday pizza night. For apps, check out Zeppelins, they have great cheese wontons, or if you’re downtown, just walk a few blocks to find something you love!
  2. New restaurants in Cedar Rapids. There’s a lot to choose from here … One place that has been getting a lot of buzz (and justly so) is Gumption. Branding itself as a hip farm-to-table restaurant, owners Steven and Makenzie Schultz offer up a delicious array of local meats and veggies. In a way, this is quintessential Iowa fare, but probably better than you’ve ever had.
  3. Cedar Rapids bars. Downtown, a bunch of cool bars are hanging out just east of the river. The Map Room on Third Street Southeast is pure atmosphere. Cozy and classy like a library, but with all the swank that's found in great bars across the country. If you're in the area, be sure to check out Pub 217 and the Black Sheep Social Club for other great watering holes.
  4. Dance! Sometimes you have a bug in your leg and the only way to get it out is to shake it loose. If you find yourself in this situation, head on down to Country Underground. Or if you want to push the envelope a little and hang out with some really friendly bartenders, check out Belle’s Basix on First Avenue.
  5. Live theater. For those looking for a romantic date idea or who simply love live theater, be sure to get tickets to upcoming shows at Theatre Cedar Rapids. For a little historic flavor, check out the Paramount Theatre, which showcases a range of orchestral and dance performances in a beautiful old building nestled right in downtown Cedar Rapids.
