The Cedar Rapids Kernels

As spring heats up and the world emerges from the cold and dark days of winter, baseball fans around Iowa will be brushing up on their stats, oiling their gloves and getting ready for long nights and the sweet sound of the cracking bat.

Now, don’t get us wrong. Major League Baseball is great, but Wrigley Field is a long way from Cedar Rapids, and all the commercialism, money and sheer size of professional sports can be distracting. Many people have discovered that if you want to get back to the basics and enjoy a game of baseball on a smaller, more intimate level, nothing beats going to a minor league game.

Here in Cedar Rapids, we have a great team playing at a great ball park: The Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Overview of the 2019 season

Tickets are on sale for the 2019 home season, so you can go ahead and get yours today.

The Kernels will play their home opener on Thursday, April 4 vs the Peoria Chiefs at Veterans Memorial Stadium. If you can’t make the big event (and we really think you should), don’t sweat it. From April through August, the Kernels will play between three to four games each week. This means you’ll have plenty of excuses to leave the office early!

So what if you’re not a die-hard baseball fan, but you still want to take in a game or two this season? Are there any special events you should go to? Yes, there are quite a few promotional events. A crowd favorite at the park are theme nights, when fans are encouraged to dress up in a particular theme, be it as a superhero or Star Wars character. Other promotional events include free T-shirt giveaways or discounted admission. To find out more, click here for a complete list of promotional nights.

The Kernels are just one more reason why people love to call Cedar Rapids home. To learn more, talk to a Coldwell Banker Hedges Realtor® today. They know the market and can show you some great neighborhoods you’ll be happy to settle down in.
