Anamosa Real Estate Listings and Information

The Jones County seat got its handle from a Native-American girl who went by the name Anamosa, which means white fawn. This little girl was so endeared to those who lived in this community that they called the town Anamosa in 1842.

Anamosa is located near US 151 and Highway 64 in Benton County, Iowa. The Wapsipinicon River flows right through this quiet town of 5,500 people. Anamosa is 25 miles northeast of Cedar Rapids and 45 miles southwest of Dubuque.

Anamosa’s parks and open spaces are great for those who enjoy walking, hiking, fishing, and biking. Anamosa is also the Pumpkin capitol of Iowa and hosts an annual Pumpkinfest. This community also sees its share of bicyclists during the RAGBRAI season. Motorcyclists are also keen to visit Anamosa due to J&P Cycles, the largest aftermarket motorcycle parts and accessories retailer in the world, and the National Motorcycle Museum. The Anamosa State Penitentiary Museum, a 140-year-old history of Iowa’s largest prison, is another must-see.

Anamosa was the birthplace of legendary American painter, Grant Wood. His legacy has its fingerprints in the form of artwork, monuments, and namesakes scattered through Anamosa. There is a little something for everybody in this, perhaps, not so quiet town.
