Call me Today!!
It seems like yesterday that I graduated from College and started a career in the Hotel and Restaurant business. I spent 8 years gaining knowledge of what it takes to run a successful people oriented business. Working 70 plus hours a week at all hours of the day and night. Checking in guests, cleaning rooms, balancing the daily books, Cooking, bussing and waiting tables much more. You meet people from all walks of life in this business. It was always exciting and ever changing. After 8 years I was ready to retire to start my own business. This was my on the job training program for Real Estate.
I was raised in a real estate family and moved back to Cedar Rapids, my hometown, to raise a family in the best "family friendly" city in America. Great Schools, plenty of activities and reasonable prices. Who could ask for more. I have been through many different real estate markets in the 29 years of working in the real estate profession. I have seen double digit interest rates, times when homes were selling so fast the lenders could not keep up with the volume, times when there was not a single new construction home available in the marketplace and everything in between. There is never a dull day in Real Estate. Seeing the smiling faces at the closing table makes the hard work worthwhile. I am committed to making sure my clients have a positive experience in this move.
I am an ambassador for the City of Cedar Rapids. When a new family comes to town I truly enjoy giving them the "tour" of the city. We have so much to offer. The "midwestern values and friendliness" makes Linn County a great place to live.

- 1994 President of the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors

In 1995 I got invloved with the "Student Built House Association" as a committee member. This has been my volunteer passion since that time. Students from the Cedar Rapids Community School District and Xavier High School build a new construction home from scratch every year. This year will be the 40th home that has been built. This is one of the finest programs available with industry partnering with high school seniors to demonstrate how a group of students working together can accomplish something as grand as a new home. Seeing what these student can accomplish with a little help and direction is amazing. Every year Coldwell Banker Hedges and myself donate the listing and marketing of the completed house. I have been a past participant and volunteer at the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program(HACAP) HACAP, a division of United Way of Eastern Iowa offers temporary housing to needy families in a six county area around Cedar Rapids. Click on the link to learn more about HACAP.
I have lived in Cedar Rapids most of my life. I have been married for 39 years to my soul mate Judy and we have two children. Our oldest, Andrea is a teacher overseas. She has lived and seen more of the world than I ever hope to see. Our son, Brian works for Rockwell Collins and lives here in Cedar Rapids. We see him regularly.
Judy and I have lived in Denver Colorado, Wheaton, Illinois, St. Louis, Missouri, Indianapolis, Indiana and Keystone, Colorado as well as most of our childhood and adult life here in Cedar Rapids. We love the Western United States and hope to retire there someday.
Anyone who works hard likes to play hard as well. Since I am an empty nester now the kid activities are past history. I enjoy several activities in my free time.
I started out as a runner in my 20's and 30's and have graduated into bicycling which is kinder on the knees. My wife and I have a tandem bicycle as well as road bikes. We enjoy railroad trails and mini bike vacations all over the midwest and Colorado, South Dakota, and Idaho. It is amazing to see some of the scenic abandoned railroad tracks converted into bike paths. We enjoy the exercise and fresh air. Our motto is "We ride to Eat". I don't know if food just tastes better after excercise or if we have just been lucky but it seems we always find some outstanding eating establishments near a bike trail.
I also enjoy woodworking and fixing up houses. Usually it is the house I live in. If is fun and rewarding to turn a dated house into a welcoming home.
How about singing in the choir. Music has been a big part of my life since I marched in the local Drum and Bugle Corps as a kid to present day where I enjoy singing as a part of a quartet at my church. If work ever slows down I hope to learn to play the guitar into my old age.
I hold a business degree from the Business School at the University of Denver. I worked in the Hospitality Industry for 8 years after graduating from DU and prior to entering the Real Estate Profession. I still enjoy entertaining our friends with unique and fun meals.
I graduated from High School in 1970 from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids.
I specialize in residentail real estate and especially enjoy new construction.
Finding that right home for customers is rewarding. You have to "get to know" each person or couple on a personal basis to help them find the home they will enjoy and look forward to owning.
New Construction is a special challenge. The process is longer so there is more time to second guess yourself. The decision making process can be overwhelming. Having a Real Estate Professional that knowswhat goes into building a home as well as features that add value can make the whole process much easier and less stressful.
