Belle Plaine Real Estate Listings and Information

Belle Plaine

The Benton County city of Belle Plaine is located on both the historic Lincoln Highway and the Union Pacific Railroad.  The name of Belle Plaine is believed to mean “Belle of the Prairie” or “Beautiful Plain.”  This charming town of 2,500 is also part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area.

In 1886 the city accidentally created a “Jumbo Well” when a well being drilled sprang water fifty three feet into the air. It took fourteen months to control the well and today the city annually celebrates Jumbo Well Days.

The Belle Plaine Community Schools include Longfellow Elementary and the Belle Plaine High School and Junior High School. The town also has a campus of Kirkwood Community College and an impressive Community Library.

There is something for everyone in Belle Plaine. The city boasts five parks, an aquatic facility, baseball diamonds, a basketball court, tennis courts, volleyball courts, and a disc golf course. There are camping sites with electricity and new playground equipment available for vacations. Many trees landscape throughout the city, making the atmosphere very enjoyable for hunting and fishing. There is also a local movie theatre, a nine-hole golf course, and an airport.
